Transcript:

TVWatcherSeptember 18, 2012 12:40 pm TVWatcher: Hi All! The Day After Chat: Revolution will begin at 1pm (ET), see you in a few minutes!!
TVWatcherSeptember 18, 2012 1:01 pm TVWatcher: So, questions, so many questions. And suspension of belief (which I am cool with). Before we get to all that, what are your general impressions of the Pilot episode of Revolution?
TVWatcherSeptember 18, 2012 1:02 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I was a little underwhelmed.
TVWatcherSeptember 18, 2012 1:03 pm TVWatcher: I got exactly what I need from the show to bring me back … probably for the long haul. Nice easy premise with probably a complicated answer; good mythology possibilities; good cast (Charlie needs some work — your either Katniss or you’re not); and Kripke at the wheel

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:04 pm TVWatcher: I think “underwhelmed” is going to be a popular response and I get that. I would have like to see a 90 minute or 2 hour premiere and wow us a little more. That being said, it laid out the cast, the initial journey and the larger premise questions: Why did the Power turn Off? And can we turn it back on?

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:04 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I thought it was trying to be too many things to too many people. Too many elements from other shows thrown into the mix.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:06 pm TVWatcher: Yes, my twitter feed was filled with Supernatural and LOST shoutouts but I think that’s as much to do with the style of the powers that be and the Easter egg hunting of fans than anything else. Kripke likes AC/DC; J.J. Abrams likes planes — those are marks of the shows they make.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:06 pm TVWatcher: The sword fighting was pretty badass =)

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:07 pm TVWatcher: The show premiered to pretty big ratings, I am almost scared to see where they fall to next week (you know they’re going to fall), especially once H50 is back.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:08 pm Blah Blah Blogger: The sword fight was actually where the show really lost me. One of those folks should have sustained some sort of injury against all of those fighters.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:09 pm TVWatcher: HA! It was classic Star Wars Han and Luke versus the Imperial Army. I liked that, got me pumped for the good guys! But really, why don’t you shoot the the guy with the sword before anything?

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:10 pm Blah Blah Blogger: Yes, I think they will fall against H50 & Castle. They will have to work hard on plot to keep viewers interested.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:11 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I think back to how Flash Forward was such a huge hit and then didn’t even finish the season.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:11 pm TVWatcher: I’m surprised they didn’t start the show on a Friday or Wednesday night a la Supernatural and let it build a cult following; someone thinks its got mojo BUT its also NBC and they aren’t the best with scheduling or letting shows grow.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:12 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I wonder how patient they will be, because this has to be an expensive show to produce. Sort of like Fox & Terra Nova.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:12 pm TVWatcher: Flash Forward, The Event, Cape. These are all cautionary tales in what not to do. We’ll see.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:13 pm TVWatcher: I had the same thought. It’ll be a total ratings driven decision at the Peacock. Post-LOST, The CW is the only broadcast channel that seems patient enough to wait on shows … probably because their biggest hits pale in comparison to average rated shows on other channels.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:13 pm LostCathy: still, I liked it. I do hope NBC gives it a chance, like you said

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:15 pm TVWatcher: Me too. I think they will. I read somewhere that Abrams is the Spielberg of his generation and that’s probably pretty close to right. They’re going to give him a long leash to let the show find its legs. This airs at least 13 episodes and almost definitely a full season. renewal is a whole other question.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:15 pm Blah Blah Blogger: It will be interesting, given that Abrams & Favreau can’t come cheap, & NBC is definitely having $ problems right now.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:15 pm TVWatcher: LostCathy, thanks for coming by! I miss you from the LOST days!

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:16 pm LostCathy: I miss me from the Lost days too. so glad you have a chat with this show. I know Whit is blogging it but I do miss T’s lost chats

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:16 pm TVWatcher: It seems that Favreau was really only around for the pilot, I think this is Kripke and Bryan Burk (from LOST)’s baby with Abrams playing Godfather in the background.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:16 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I just wonder if they will stick with 13 eps only for sake of money if they want to give second season. maybe a show that is a 13 ep only series per season?

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:17 pm TVWatcher: We’re blogging it to and doing the chat every Tuesday.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:17 pm LostCathy: great, I be reading.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:17 pm TVWatcher: Recap link http://onmydvr.com/2012/09/keep-or-delete-revolution/

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:17 pm LostCathy: I think you like it more that Whit

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:18 pm TVWatcher: What about the show itself, are you thinking government conspiracy? The Marines connection with Parris Island and Miles and Sebastian was an interesting choice if its a red herring

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:18 pm TVWatcher: I may be colored by wanting to really like it, I think

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:19 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:19 pm TVWatcher: Without a doubt, the show has issues but even LOST had issues. I think it can work itself out.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:20 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I’m not thinking too far ahead yet.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:20 pm LostCathy: That’s the premise of the whole show. What caused the blackout. Not really sure after i episode but it could be a government conspiriacy. I really want to like it too and the first ep did not disappoint me

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:21 pm LostCathy: But I am easy with tv shows, they have to be really bad ( like Whitney) for me to hate it.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:21 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I can’t believe they renewed that show.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:22 pm LostCathy: me either, it is so bad, who in their right mind watches that crap

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:22 pm TVWatcher: The USB drive is interesting, the look Grace gave Dummy Danny when she sold him out so easily to Gus Fring told me something was up with her but the secret room and IM discussion with at least a third party (since Aaron was with the Not at all Merry Band and not chatting with her) in on the “secret” is a classic LOST ending and it was really got me.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:23 pm TVWatcher: Sitcoms are such a different bag; there is so much bad out there; Whitney is just a shining example of crap.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:23 pm Blah Blah Blogger: that computer looked like she should be entering Hurley’s lotto numbers

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:23 pm LostCathy: i agree, there are at least 3 people with the USB.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:23 pm TVWatcher: I’m pretty easy on shows too, especially plot, character and mythology heavy ones; I want to be mentally involved week in and week out.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:23 pm LostCathy: I though the same thing about the computer. Ha HA

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:24 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I’m more of a character driven person, so I don’t feel we get enough yet to be fully invested in these characters.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:25 pm LostCathy: I like the characters so far. Really hoping Juliet is not dead and has a bigger role

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:25 pm TVWatcher: I thought it was interesting that whomever she was speaking with had no idea what to do next and was asking her … are they just lost or is she a mastermind, Algebra teacher.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:25 pm TVWatcher: I put in my recap that there is no way she’s dead. That’s the season 1 cliffhanger, she’s the other one chatting on the computer.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:26 pm LostCathy: ha ha Lost, that’s it. They need to find the island

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:26 pm LostCathy: ooh, yeah, she’s the other one on the computer, I really like that theory. It makes sense since she knew about it because of Ben

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:27 pm TVWatcher: Blah Bah, I think we’re going to get nice full pictures of these characters. With the couple of flashbacks we got in the pilot, I think we’ll be doing character episodes where we delve into their previous 15 years … at least with respect to Miles (and how he became separated from Monroe)

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:27 pm TVWatcher: Right! hen would have had some panic room set up for this … there’

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:27 pm LostCathy: Yes, we need to know how Monroe became the leader. I love flashbacks

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:28 pm TVWatcher: s probably a network he set up of secret rooms across the [globe/country?]

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:28 pm TVWatcher: Its become a well used device but still one of the best ways to sell you on the character and make you invested.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:28 pm LostCathy: secret rooms, yes just like a hatch. Sorry I still miss Lost

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:29 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I want to know how he got that fancy setup.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:29 pm LostCathy: I think he looted a bunch of rich people’s homes

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:29 pm TVWatcher: Monroe? That militia tent was nicer than my living room, fo sho.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:29 pm TVWatcher: To quote Mel Brooks, “its good to be the king, er general”

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:31 pm LostCathy: i didn’t catch who is doing the score. I liked the music

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:31 pm TVWatcher: Anyone else ready to move past the Nate/Charlie love storyline? It hasn’t even started yet and I’m already bored with it. Sci Fi/Fantasy guys can’t write love stories so why do they keep trying? Just appease the nerds and more sword fights!

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:31 pm Blah Blah Blogger: They both seem very wooden.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:31 pm LostCathy: well said, I don’t care for it either.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:33 pm TVWatcher: Christopher Lennertz is doing the original music; his big show was Supernatural (2005-11)

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:34 pm TVWatcher: Giancarlo Esposito delivered as always

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:34 pm LostCathy: thanks, I never got into Supernatural.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:34 pm TVWatcher: I’m excited to see the evolution of his character arc because he definitely doesn’t seem as deeply commited to the cause as you’d want from your militia head.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:34 pm LostCathy: Loved Giancarlo. More on his backstory

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:35 pm TVWatcher: I’m a recent convert to Supernatural. I get it now, after having watched 6 seasons this summer.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:35 pm Blah Blah Blogger: Bet he owned a chain of chicken restaurants before the lights went out.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:35 pm LostCathy: I watch too much tv as it is so I’m not going there.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:35 pm LostCathy: Not Mr clucks!!!

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:36 pm Blah Blah Blogger: Los Pollos Hermanos

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:36 pm TVWatcher: Yeah, Giancarlo and Billy Burke really stole the show, I felt. Not that anyone else was particularly bad (I like Zak Orth’s comedic relief as Aaron and I think he’s going to have an important backstory) but they just shone so brightly

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:36 pm LostCathy: I like how not baby Aaron had 80 mil and a plane. A nod to Hurley

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:37 pm LostCathy: Of course we had to have a downed plane for our trekers to sleep on. How JJ

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:37 pm TVWatcher: HAHA. Aaron is just such a Biblically charged name for me, my ears always prick up for that one and I’m looking for something deeper

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:38 pm TVWatcher: The Charlie, Aaron, Miles, Ben names, JJ likes his staples

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:38 pm LostCathy: He does indeed. And I don’t mind

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:39 pm Blah Blah Blogger: Now you guys are making me wonder if I’m really up for a show where I have to look for a deeper meaning in every name, place and action.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:40 pm LostCathy: You don’t have to, just enjoy the ride. That’s what i am going to TRY to do

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:40 pm TVWatcher: But BBB, you already do that on SOA — everything is tied to something that came before, its just like that with more outside research.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:40 pm TVWatcher: The good shows let you enjoy it as its aired but also reward the freaks that dig deeper.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:40 pm TVWatcher: =)

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:40 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I just enjoy the ride there, and ask the hubby anything extra I need to know. :)

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:40 pm LostCathy: AMEN to that!

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:41 pm TVWatcher: Well, you can do the same here … I’m always around :D

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:42 pm LostCathy: I wonder why Charlie was so trusting of whatever his name was. Because he’s hot?

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:42 pm TVWatcher: Back to the show, it’ll be interesting to see them roaming the roads every week. Like Walking Dead (until they got to the Farmhouse), the show has to move along because you are physically moving your characters every week. That should keep people happy that don’t want to bog down in 1 place forever, literally and figuratively

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:43 pm Blah Blah Blogger: But that will also be their challenge to keep it interesting. Kind of a double edge sword.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:43 pm TVWatcher: I think so, she’s very much a teenage girl between the blind trust in Nate and the whole, “You’re not my mother” and related tone with Maggie

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:45 pm TVWatcher: If you’re a Hunger Games fan, I think you can see the differences between Charlie and Katniss. Katniss mistrusts everyone, expects shit and isn’t disappointed when that’s what she gets. Wise (and cynical) beyond her years. Charlie is naive in every way imaginable to her larger world. her father made her that way so while she has the adventurous spirit, she doesn’t have the innate instinct (yet) to thrive in that world. Which is why Miles will be a good companion for her

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:45 pm TVWatcher: Remember, he’s good at killing things

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:46 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I think they need to humanize Miles a little more.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:46 pm LostCathy: Yes he is good at that. That scene where he takes everyone out was fantastic. I missed the boat on the Hunger Games

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:47 pm TVWatcher: I think that’s going to be part of his journey … descent into isolated bitterness to now and a road to being humanized for his family going forward. I think (hope) you”re going to see him and Charlie heading towards the middle of the personality spectrum and then pass each other as the show progresses, her getting tougher, him softer.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:48 pm LostCathy: That’s what I think too. i liked his dial it back line.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:48 pm TVWatcher: That was my fav line of the night.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:49 pm LostCathy: that and not baby Aaron wanting Charmin

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:50 pm TVWatcher: I think the journey will be for AAron to become less jokester, more right hand man since I totally think he knows all about whatever Ben knew. Maggie, I don’t know what her deal is. Her character isn’t described anywhere … so I don’t know if she dies off or was a late edition to the show?

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:51 pm Blah Blah Blogger: Her character made the least sense to me.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:51 pm LostCathy: not sure about her but I think it’s a good possiblity she will die when Juliet returns

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:51 pm TVWatcher: Yeah, though poisoning whiskey is a good paranoid move, I can see the show just as easy without her.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:52 pm TVWatcher: It is a nice desu ex machina though to have a doctor around to sew you up after the sword fight.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:52 pm LostCathy: but I would rather it be Juliet Burke

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:52 pm TVWatcher: Wouldn’t we all’

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:53 pm TVWatcher: BBB, did you watch LOST?

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:53 pm Blah Blah Blogger: Oh yes! I was a total Lostie. And I, for one, LOVED the ending.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:53 pm LostCathy: think about Kate sewing Jack up.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:54 pm TVWatcher: ME TOO! I get sad whenever I see Damon self deprecating about it on Twitter cause I really liked it

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:54 pm Blah Blah Blogger: I think they would be well served to add Josh Holloway to the cast.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:54 pm TVWatcher: Yeah but you don’t want your niece sewing your uncle up … that makes it like an HBO show

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:54 pm LostCathy: Yes more Sawyer!!!

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:55 pm TVWatcher: I thought that the Miles character was crafted very much with Sawyer in mind

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:55 pm Blah Blah Blogger: Not enough personality.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:55 pm LostCathy: yes, I like Billy Burke just fine. He needs more one liners though

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:55 pm TVWatcher: Well, he was drinking most of the episode because he thought he was going to be killed.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:56 pm Blah Blah Blogger: Plus, he didn’t have nicknames for anybody.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:56 pm LostCathy: I guess we will have to supply the nicknames

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:56 pm TVWatcher: OK guys, going to start wrapping up. Thanks so much for coming out and hopefully next week, we’ll have a bigger crowd. Please spread the word Last thoughts on what you’re hoping for next week?

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:57 pm LostCathy: more communication on the secret computer

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:57 pm TVWatcher: My only real nickname is for Danny and that’s just Dummy Danny because … dude, you totally got your dad killed.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:58 pm TVWatcher: More backstory on Miles/Sebastian

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:58 pm LostCathy: He is kinda unlikeable.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:58 pm TVWatcher: He’s like the son on Terra Nova last year who you rooted for getting eaten by a dinosaur every week.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 1:58 pm Blah Blah Blogger: Needs to find it’s own footing, and look less like other shows.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:58 pm LostCathy: my thoughts exactly. I hated that kid.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 1:59 pm LostCathy: thanks for the chat. See you next week

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:59 pm TVWatcher: Same here!

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 1:59 pm TVWatcher: LostCathy are you on Twitter?

LostCathy September 18, 2012 2:00 pm LostCathy: no, I try to stay off all the computer nonsense except for blogs. I don’t even have a smartphone, just a dumb phone

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 2:01 pm TVWatcher: HAHA ok, well I hope you come by OMD some more, would love to see you in the comments.

Blah Blah Blogger September 18, 2012 2:01 pm Blah Blah Blogger: Thanks everyone. See you next time.

LostCathy September 18, 2012 2:01 pm LostCathy: I do read OMD just about every day.

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 2:01 pm TVWatcher: Bye all, thanks for coming by!

TVWatcher September 18, 2012 2:01 pm TVWatcher: Great!
