1. TV Tonight! The Olympics begin, what else do you need to know? U-S-A!!!
- NBC begins its two week reign of TV with the Opening Ceremony of the XXX Summer Olympics from 7:30-midnight! (Check out On My DVR’s special Olympics coverage for a daily schedule of events and the daily rundown of medal counts!).
- ABC puts up a new 20/20 at 9.
- On cable, the only thing that should pull you away from the Olympics is the new Common Law on USA Network at 10.
2. The XXX Summer Olympics. A staple of TV for the next two weeks, On My DVR will be keeping you up to date on the hot button events and their when and where as well as how the medal count stands! Tonight is the opening ceremony (which is not live since London is 5 hours ahead). Event wise, there is only the preliminary rounds of Archery, no medals.
3. ABC at the TCAs. it was ABC’s turn in front of the Television Critics Association and here are the recaps on Revenge, General Hospital, and Katie.
4. ABC Fall Premiere Date Schedule. In addition to its TCA panels, ABC announced its schedule of Fall premiere dates here. These are the dates you need to keep in mind:
- Monday, September 24: Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars (8-10) and Castle (10-11)
- Wednesday, September 26: The Middle (special one-hour premiere from 8-9); Modern Family (9-9:30); and series premiere of The Neighbors (special 9:30-10 before moving to its regular 8:30 time slot the next week)
- Thursday, September 27: series premiere of Last Resort (8-9); Grey’s Anatomy (9-10); and Scandal (10-11)
- Sunday, September 30: Once Upon a Time (8-9); Revenge (9-10, new time slot); and series premiere of 666 Park Avenue (10-11)
- Wednesday, October 10: series premiere of Nashville (10-11)
- Tuesday, October 23: Happy Endings (9-9:30); and Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 (9:30-10, time slot change)
5. Casting and Show News. There is lots going on elsewhere so lets hit the basics: showrunner Matthew Weiner confirmed that Elisabeth Moss WILL return to Mad Men next season meanwhile, Eric Dane (Dr. Mark Sloan) will be leaving Grey’s Anatomy sometime next season. Elsewhere, American Horror Story added another cast member to its season 2 with Jenna Dewan (Step Up) coming on board as the female part of “The Lovers” (the male is being played by Adam Levine). Laurence Fishburne has been added to the cast of Hannibal as “Jack Crawford,” a unifying character in all of Thomas Harris novels about Hannibal Lecter. Once Upon a Time added some more youth with the addition of Julian Morris (Pretty Little Liars) as Prince Phillip (to Sarah Bolger’s Sleeping Beauty). In show news, Bravo has renewed Kathy Griffin’s talker, Kathy, for a season 2.
