Morning News: May 16, 2012

With NBC, Fox and ABC having pulled back their curtains, today its CBS’s turn to do the deed (TNT/TBS and Adult Swim also have announcements today). 1.  TV Tonight! No real “Must See” season finales tonight but there are a few to choose from if you need a climax fix, ranging from Criminal Minds to Suburgatory to some SyFy shows.

• CBS has the two hour Criminal Minds season finale starting at 9.
• NBC just has two new episodes of Betty White’s Off Their Rockers starting at 8.
• Fox has two hours of American Idol starting at 8.
• ABC is all new all night with The Middle, the season finale of Suburgatory, Modern Family, Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 and Revenge at 10.
• CW has a new America’s Next Top Model at 9.
• On cable, SyFy has the season finale of Ghost Hunters at 9 followed by the finale of Total Blackout starting at 10.

2.  ABC’s Upfront News and Fall Schedule. Of course, the move everyone is talking about is Revenge taking Desperate Housewives’ Sunday at 9 timeslot. Without Pan Am or GCB, what else were they going to put there?  Paired with Once Upon a Time as its lead in and freshman drama, 666 Park Avenue as its lead out, Sundays belong to ABC. Fact. Last Resort is a top 5 fave for me in the early going but I am worried it might be too heavy a subject matter for 8pm on Thursdays. We’ll see. Last, its an interesting move, putting Bitch and Happy Endings up against the New Girl driven, Fox comedy block, though a little competition might help everyone in the end. And I applaud their revival of a TGIF feel even though less people will watch Last Man Standing than watch it now and Malibu Country will be mediocre at best.
